Joanne read Law at Birmingham and obtained an LLB (Hons), following which she undertook the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Guildford.

Joanne is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association. She qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and was promoted to Associate in May 2007. She focuses solely on employment law and advises employers on both contentious and non-contentious issues. She provides regular in-house training for large international clients and hosts seminars on a wide range of employment topics.

Joanne provides strategic employment advice on a wide range of issues to a number of household companies, including advice on TUPE, redundancies and restrictive covenant disputes. Joanne also assists in corporate transactional work both in due diligence and in drafting and negotiating warranties, indemnities, service agreements and compromise agreements.
Examples of work handled include:

• Drafting contracts of employment, handbooks and policies and procedures.
• Providing strategic employment advice to clients at an early stage, so as to minimise the risk of a claim by the employee
• Defending Employment Tribunal claims for large (and small) employers.
• Advising on and helping to manage large redundancy programmes, including drafting all the necessary documentation.
• Advising on and helping to manage TUPE situations, including advice on service provision changes and drafting all correspondence with the employee representatives, the employees and the incoming/outgoing contractor (as appropriate)
• Drafting and negotiating compromise agreements
• Corporate support work, working on a number of large projects. This includes due diligence work, negotiating the indemnities and warranties, giving the client advice in relation to TUPE consequences, etc
• Hosting in-house training sessions and seminars
• General telephone advice.
