What is your proudest achievement? I led a key presentation to a large player within the healthcare sector where we didn’t have a great deal of previous experience. By putting together a united team from across various different disciplines (corporate, banking, property and construction) and building relationships within the sector I managed to secure new work. I am now building on our expertise and experience in that sector.
Give an example of when you have delighted a client Funnily enough, there is one example outside legal work. I know a fantastic Indian restaurant which is a well-kept secret. I introduced a long-standing client to it and since then it has become his favourite too. He couldn’t be happier!
Best brains in… Development finance work because I understand the mindset of developers, investors and funders alike and work to realise the project’s objectives. I get a real buzz when closing these types of deals and it’s always pleasing to see a successful development from conception to final sale.
How are you a step ahead in your role? I am responsible for training and development in the Property, Construction & Projects team. It’s particularly satisfying when a trainee moves to a different department and other lawyers are impressed by their abilities, confidence and focus on client care. Our trainees are the future of our practice. By investing time and sharing my experience, I can help to equip them with the necessary skill set to build successful careers.
How do you keep in touch / get involved with the local business community? Property People:MK is the bi-monthly networking evening which we facilitate. It’s a great opportunity to stay in touch with key players in the local property community. This regular contact ensures we keep abreast of local news and deals. Importantly, we can seek out opportunities to bring contacts or clients together. This reflects our mindset of creating connections and opportunities rather than simply waiting for things to happen.
Shashi is an Associate in the Property, Construction and Projects group.
