A founding member of Kimbells, Peter has led the firm’s specialisation in acting for brewers, pub companies and the licensed trade. His introduction to the industry came through his association with clients for whom he was first instructed whilst working for a firm in Newcastle. The client base has since broadened considerably to include many national and regional brewers and pub companies.
Peter has a broad based understanding of the regulatory regime affecting the industry, coupled with extensive experience of handling the majority of legal and commercial issues likely to affect companies in this sector.
Specifically Peter has advised on:
Sales, purchases, lettings and redevelopment of public houses, restaurants and hotels
Supply contracts for beer and drinks as well as other related products
Competition and regulatory issues. These have included Article 81, Regulation 2970/99 and the Beer Orders (now repealed)
AWP and Machine Supply arrangements
Trading ties and their enforceability - the firm acted in the ground-breaking case of Passmore v Morland plc
The implication of licensing reform for sales and purchases of public houses, lettings and developments
Marketing and advertising contracts
General industry issues, providing strategic advice to a variety of companies in the sector in the United Kingdom on a consultancy basis
